Cass Senic Railroad

Cass is located in Pocahontas County WV. The railroad was used for logging years ago, but has since been used for a senic ride for everyone to enjoy. The highlight of the trip is Bald Knob. Bald Knob is the second highest point in WV at an altitude of 4,842 feet. When at the top of the mountain, you can look over and see the Robert C. Byrd Greenbank Telescope. It's a fun trip.

  • I was pleased with it too. We were sitting at the top of the mountain before going back down. I remember because I had to wait for the children to get out of the shot. :)

  • Nice shot of the Shay Engine drive gear. I've read that among Shay aficianados the Cass Railway restoration is one of the best. Those engines are featured on the Shay Locomotive website.

  • Sort of... But it is not the destination, it's the journey.

I have been there several times, and will probably go again next Summer.
